While we are a small company that can have limited effect on the people and world around us we have made a decision as a business to do our best to help build a better world for future generations.

Environmental Aspects

  • Significant reduction in single use plastic. We purchase concentrated chemicals in bulk that we then dilute into reusable bottles. Our bottles can be refilled 70-100 times before replacement, and nearly all plastic used can be and is recycled.

  • Most of our vehicles are small with low engine capacity to reduce fuel usage and our sites are scheduled (where possible) to reduce travel time and mileage. As we expand it is our intention to swap to electric vehicles that would nearly eliminate our carbon footprint.

Social Aspects

  • All staff are paid above minimum wage, with most of our fully trained staff on living wage or higher. As we add clients and can build our efficiency further our aim is to have all staff on living wage from day one.

  • Most of our vehicles are small with low engine capacity to reduce fuel usage and our sites are scheduled (where possible) to reduce travel time and mileage. As we expand it is our intention to swap to electric vehicles that would nearly eliminate our carbon footprint.

  • We employ a number of Uni students who want to retain a flexible, understanding job that supports them in their studies. Leave is available to students for study breaks or exams, and are offered extra hours over Uni holidays to build up their savings.

Organisational

  • Unlike many other cleaning companies we are non-franchised. We do not believe in requiring our staff to pay for a job and add extra financial stress by requiring them to purchase chemicals and equipment through us. All chemicals, vehicles and equipment are provided to our team so they can focus on delivering our services.

  • Where possible and practical we use NZ owned suppliers. Our Health and Safety advisers, three of our consumables suppliers and website design and maintenance contractor are all NZ owned and operated, with much of our other suppliers Australian owned.

  • 21st Century Cleaning and its parent company, NAWAK services limited, are both 100% NZ owned with zero foreign ownership or investment. We are proud to carve out our section of NZ ownership among a sea of businesses that send their profit overseas instead of investing in New Zealand.

Financial

  • While we are a whitebait in a sea of blue whales we are proud of our ability to donate to NZ organisations that support our community. Our past and current sponsorship includes organisations that support child heath, disabilities and youth sport to give our youngest and disadvantaged their best change to thrive.
